Every Thursday evening, from May 30 through August 29, we extend our hours until 8pm. We’ve planned special activities, entertainment and educational opportunities with something special for our members included each week. Plus, every Thursday, MEMBERS can bring one guest for FREE after 5pm!

Unless otherwise noted, Summer Nights activities are drop-in, held from 5-8pm, and free with general admission to Filoli. The Dining Room Terrace bar and Quail Nest Cafe are open every Summer Night.

Lecture: Math, Art, and Flowers: Experiencing Symmetry at Filoli
Frank Farris, author of Creating Symmetry: The Artful Mathematics of Wallpaper Patterns, Chair, Professor, Mathematics and Computer Science Department at Santa Clara University
In his “Imaginary Landscapes” series, Farris takes delight in adding mathematical shapes decorated with patterns to photographs. Where did the patterns come from? From more photographs, mostly of flowers! In this talk, he’ll explain the process behind his art, speaking in general terms that the non-specialist can understand. It’s a story of symmetry, waves, and two kinds of beauty: mathematical and natural.

Whether it’s a statement-making fiddle-leaf fig or a tiny tabletop succulent, a houseplant instantly elevates the look of your home. But where to begin? In Decorating with Plants, Baylor Chapman walks readers through everything they need to know to bring houseplants into their home.
