New Class Series!
This curated access to Filoli offers a monthly opportunity to learn from Filoli’s experts: Head Curator and Collections Manager, Julie Bly DeVere, Head of Horticulture, Jim Salyards, or Nature Education Supervisor, Mary Anne Leary.

A 90-minute behind-the-scenes tour or hike is followed by time to talk with one of Filoli’s experts over a seasonally selected boxed lunch. Space is limited to 15 people, so you’ll truly feel like a Filoli insider!

Discovering the Botanical Secrets of Winter

Join Filoli’s Nature Programs Supervisor, Mary Anne Leary, for a seasonal nature hike on Filoli’s preserve. On this 90-minute hike, you will learn about the history of the preserve and its first inhabitants, along with discovering the hidden botanical gems of winter. After the hike, join Mary Anne for a seasonally selected box lunch to be enjoyed at Red’s Barn.

The hike traverses about 2 miles of uneven terrain including moderate hills. The trails are not wheelchair accessible. Hikers may be required to maneuver over or around obstacles on trails. Please bring water, walking shoes, and clothing for light rain. Join Filoli’s Head Curator and Collection Manager, Julie Bly DeVere, upstairs in the main House to learn about ongoing collections care. This 90-minute tour includes a visit to the Collections Workroom and a storage suite. Learn about how the Filoli team manages ongoing collections tasks like photography, rehousing, and inventory. Afterward, join Julie for a seasonally selected box lunch upstairs in one of the original bedroom spaces. Space is limited to 15 people, so you’ll truly feel like a Filoli insider!

Join Filoli’s Head of Horticulture, Jim Salyards, for a tour of the garden and Filoli’s historic greenhouses.  This 90-minute tour includes a description of the process of planning the spring and summer displays, Filoli’s bulb program, stories about the important plants that influence the displays, and other fun facts about the plant collections in the garden.  The tour will wrap up with a visit to the four greenhouses and information about the function of each, and the plants within. Afterward, join Jim for a seasonally selected box lunch served in the Potting Shed. Space is limited to 15 people, so you’ll truly feel like a Filoli insider!

This 90-minute tour includes a visit to the newly restored Drawing Room, and a chance to visit the archives upstairs and see some of the original documents and records.
