Scratchboard is a form of direct engraving where the artist scratches off dark ink to reveal a white or colored layer beneath. This technique allows the artist to use both additive and subtractive methods to create black and white pieces with rich contrast and depth. Students will be given choices of a botanical subject from Filoli’s Garden that will shine in this unique media. Fee includes scratchboard.
This class counts as an elective for the Botanical Art Certificate program but is open to all Art and Botanical Art students.
Recommended: experience with pen and ink or graphite
