January 9 – February 18, 2018
For the first time ever, Filoli is opening its doors in the winter, unlocking the secret beauty of a garden at rest. In celebration, the Filoli Unlocked exhibition will feature photographs of gates, doors, garden objects, and hidden and historic architecture.
Black and white photography offers an unexpected view of formal gardens – Filoli in particular. Deep shadows and dark wrought iron adds depth to the exposed, sculptural forms of the winter garden. Beds of spring flowers and vibrant green foliage – usually the focus of photographers – are instead used to frame gates and garden objects.
Congratulations to Jerry Barrack who’s photograph Bourn Garden Gate received the Juror Award.
