2020 Winter at Filoli – Haiku Competition Guidelines
Concept: The winter season at Filoli is one of beauty and reflection. Submit a haiku inspired by Filoli’s winter garden to our Haiku Poetry Competition.
Our special guest judge is San Mateo County Poet Laureate Aileen Cassinetto! Winners will have the opportunity to read their winning haikus at a ceremony at Noon on March 1, 2020. Submissions are open to all. There are three prizes to be won – First Prize, Second Prize and Best under 18 years of age.
Deadline: Entries should be submitted by February 15, 2020, 12:00 pm. The finalists will be announced on February 19 and invited to the event on March 1, where the winners will be announced.
Eligibility: The awards are open to the public. You may submit up to three original haikus that have not been previously published. Haikus must be in the 5-7-5 or haiku format and be inspired by Filoli’s winter garden.
Submissions: Entries can be submitted in person at the Filoli Visitor Center, via mail, or online, see form below. You may submit up to three haikus. If submitting in person, please place your haiku and contact details in a sealed envelope and put in the marked box at the Visitor Center.

Adjudication: Our judge is the Poet Laureate of San Mateo County, Aileen Cassinetto. Aileen will judge blind.
Awards: Filoli Household Plus Membership and Gift Basket of hand-crafted Filoli products for first place, Filoli Individual Plus Membership for second place and a Filoli Household Membership for our under 18 winner.
Rights: Poems submitted will be used by Filoli for promotional materials, the winning poems will be displayed in the Visitor and Education Center, and the winning poems will be published on our social media and marketing channels.
